Japan is facing a rising burden of lifestyle diseases and environmental contamination. As national and local governments grapple with these issues, young people appear to be creating their own subculture of health and sustainability - an ÅgecoÅh way of life. Thailand faces similar problems and new eco trends. In this collaborative anthropological study, we conduct participant observations and semi-structured Åginsight group interviewsÅh to explore how and why young people in these two countries are creating eco subculture. We compare the emerging patterns in Japan and Thailand, and determine how these political-economic changes shape relations between the two societies. This study will contribute to improvements in health and the environment.
