隙間にある実践共同体　 interstitial communities of practice　とは、より大きな実践コミュニティの中に生起する疎外された参加者が構成するインフォーマルな実践コミュニティであり、その構成員は優 位な実践コミュニティに参加しながら同時に非−参加のアイデンティティを共有することになる（Wenger 1990）。

There were many interstitial communities of practice within the office and with people outside the office, at client companies and at service providers, that did not follow reified institutional lines. Ethnographers of the workplace have often noted the importance of these spontaneous, non-official communities of practice in getting things done in spite of bureaucratic obstacles (p.146)
