Course Objective:
Through contrapuntal reading between Mary Roarch's "The Curious Science
of Humans at War," 2016. and Tomoko Yamazaki's "Sandakan brothel no. 8
: an episode in the history of lower-class Japanese women," original,
1972, and her other works, we will discuss on from ethnographic writing
to Gonzo journalism. We think that the objectives of this course is
three step of cycling; reading, discussing, and thinking.
Learning Goals:
1. The participants of this class can read Mary Roarch's "The Curious Science of Humans at War," 2016. in Japanese.
2. The participants of this class can read Tomoko Yamazaki's "Sandakan
brothel no. 8 : an episode in the history of lower-class Japanese
women," original, 1972,
3. 2. The participants of this class can read Tomoko Yamazaki's "Until
Sandakan brothel no. 8 : a my personal life," original, 2001, in
Japanese.
Requirement / Prerequisite: The participants will be required Japanese reading and talking competencies.

Grading Policy:
Grading of qualification will be evaluated from self-evaluation points
from each students' portfolios, 50%, and attainment points of student's
reports, 50%.
