☆ 『ユリシーズ』 はアイルランドの作家ジェイムズ・ジョイスによるモダニズム小説。その一部は1918年3月から1920年12月までアメリカの雑誌『リト ル・レビュー』に連載され、1922年2月2日、ジョイスの40歳の誕生日にシルヴィア・ビーチによって全作品がパリで出版された。モダニズム文学の最も 重要な作品のひとつとされ、「運動全体の実証であり総括」と呼ばれている。作家のデクラン・キバードによれば、「ジョイス以前には、思考のプ ロセスをこれほど前景化した小説家はいなかった」と言われる。
★ 第12話は「サイクロプス（キュクロープス挿話）」である：このエピソードは、借金取りとして働く無名のダブリンの住人がナレーションを担当する。ナレー ターはバーニー・キアナンのパブに行き、そこで「市民（シチズン）」とだ け呼ばれる人物に出会う。この人物は、ゲーリック・アスレチック・アソシエーションの創設メンバーであるマイケル・キューザックを風刺したものだと考えら れている[44]。レオポルド・ブルームがパブに入ると、フェニアンで反ユダヤ主義者の市民に叱責される。このエピソードは、ブルームが自分の救い主 がユダヤ人であったことを市民に思い出させるところで終わる。ブルームがパブを出ると、市民はブルームの頭にビスケット缶を投げつけるが、それは外れる。 このエピソードは、無名の語り手以外の声で語られる長大な余談が特徴的である。その中には、法律の専門用語の流れ、ボクシングの試合の報告、聖書の一節、 アイルランド神話の要素などが含まれる（→ユリシーズ）。

| For nonperishable goods bought of Moses Herzog, of 13 Saint Kevin’s parade in the city of Dublin, Wood quay ward, merchant, hereinafter called the vendor, and sold and delivered to Michael E.
