What is Diversity?
数学において「多様性」とは、「計量空間の概念を一般化したもの」 であるという。ブライアントとタッパー（2012）によると「多方向の計量の 一形態」を多様性であるという。
生物学における多様性とは、生物多様性（bio-diversity）と言 われる。生物多様性とは、ある空間（熱帯雨林の林床に降り注ぐ一滴の水から、生物群集、群系、生態系から大陸や大洋さらには地球全体まで）のなかに存在 する生物種の種類の多さのことをさす概念である。生物多様性には、１）遺伝子の多様性、２）種の多様性、そして、３）生物相あるいは生態系の中における多 様性、の三つの次元で考えるのが一般的である。
