解説　

生物学を基本パラダイムとする医学を、生物医学・生物医療・バイオメディシンと呼ぶ。今日では、近代医療や現代医療と同義語である。なぜなら、近代医療の近代性がより強調されると、生物学パラダイムが中心規範となり、生物医療（biomedicine）＝バイオメディ シンと呼ばれるからである。近代医療、あるいは現代医療とは、生物学を中心とした科学的認識と手法にもとづいて実行される認知とその実 践（＝医療）のこと。科学的認知と手法には、合理的認識論、特定病因論、人道主義など が含まれると言われている。

Merriam-Webster の辞書によると Biomedicineの初出は、1947年：“medicine based on the application of the principles of the natural sciences and especially biology and biochemistry”

ちなみにfolk medicine の初出は1878年、medicine man (=shaman)は1801年、modernの初出はぐっと古くなり1585年である。

medicine show には“a traveling show using entertainers to attract a crowd among which remedies or nostrums are sold ”が見える。

Biomedicine (i.e. medical biology) is a branch of medical science that applies biological and physiological principles to clinical practice. The branch especially applies to biology and physiology. Biomedicine also can relate to many other categories in health and biological related fields. It has been the dominant health system for more than a century.- Biomedicine.
